In this course, students will develop their writing skills in a community of high school writers. All students will be able to choose not only their topics but also the type of writing they wish to practice, including, but not limited to, research papers, journalism, academic essays and creative writing. Through weekly readings and writing challenges, they will develop and refine their skills through all the stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to final draft. Shared readings of literary masters and student writers will provide inspiration for their own projects. In their writer’s journals, students will experiment with new ways of generating ideas for writing and explore new modes of written expression. Students will improve their ability to write exactly what they mean by participating in writer’s workshop sessions.
