The Advanced Placement course in English Language and Composition will enhance the student’s ability to become a skilled reader of various types of prose and a skilled writer who composes for a variety of purposes. The course will provide a strong foundation that meets the College Board’s curricular standards. An intensive focus will be placed on writing rhetorical analysis, developing written arguments and synthesizing the source-based essay. In addition to this focus on skills related to the three AP English exam essays, this course also provides a strong foundation for students that will enable them to flourish on the AP exam multiple choice assessment. The development of critical reading skills for the wide variety of non-fiction found on the exam will be paired with AP multiple choice tests. Students will finish the course with an excellent understanding of the AP English Language and Composition curriculum and a strong set of skills tied to all components of the AP English exam.
