AP Biology is an intensive course designed to be the equivalent of an introductory biology course taken in college. The emphasis is on developing an understanding of biological concepts rather than an accumulation of facts. Organismal diversity, from microorganisms to plants and animals and the continuity of life through genetics and development are emphasized. AP Biology also incorporates science practices into the curriculum. These practices include establishing lines of evidence and using them to develop and refine testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena. These disciplinary practices enable teachers to use the principles of scientific inquiry to promote a more engaging and rigorous experience for AP Biology students.
