English Language Art (G2)

Welcome to the English Language Arts class for current 2nd grade students! In this course, we will dive into critical skills in Reading and Writing aligned with the New York State standards and grade level curricula. Students in this class will review essential reading comprehension strategies, strengthen their reading fluency, learn new test taking tips and practice writing for all different purposes. A review of decoding and a concentration of common spelling/grammar concepts will be included in each class.

The sessions in this course are tailored to the needs of the class and instruction is differentiated to ensure all learners are engaged. Academic rigor, writing in complete sentences and using evidence to support responses are emphasized. Students will use their critical thinking skills to analyze texts and engage in authentic literary discussions with their peers. A variety of genres will be covered from non-fiction news articles to reader's theater to poetry, this class will motivate all learners to achieve and succeed!
